Common queries regarding our retro video games rating process and submission criteria.

Do you review modern indie games?

No. Our strict mandate covers classic arcade and home console video games released exclusively between the 1970s and 1999.

How long does a suggestion take?

Our curators review community submissions weekly. If a suggested title meets our criteria, it will appear in the next catalogue update.

Can I dispute a game rating?

Ratings reflect an aggregate of historical impact and contemporary playability. However, constructive debates via our contact form are always welcome.

Submission Protocols

To maintain the integrity of the RetroPixel Legends archive, we ask all contributors to follow a few basic protocols when suggesting games or providing historical trivia.

    Original Hardware Focus

Base your reviews and reasoning on the original release, not modern remakes or ports.

  • 2

    Historical Context

Consider what the game achieved during its era when suggesting its master rating.

Do not submit modified ROMs, fan translations, or unauthorised hacks to the primary database.

How We Can Help

RetroPixel Legends is a reference and rating guide for classic arcade and home console games (1970s–1990s). We welcome messages that fit our mission.

  • Game suggestions — Titles missing from our Top 10, ratings directory, or genre filters.
  • Rating feedback — Constructive notes on scores, rankings, or historical context in our write-ups.
  • Archive corrections — Release years, publishers, genres, or factual errors in “Did You Know” and history sections.
  • Press & research — Media enquiries about retro gaming heritage, interviews, or citation requests.
  • Partnerships — Museums, podcasts, or educational projects aligned with preserving arcade culture.
  • General questions — How we compile ratings, submission criteria, and site policies.

To suggest a game, use the form on our homepage so curators receive structured details.

What We Cannot Help With

To set expectations, our small editorial team cannot assist with every gaming-related request.

  • Modern releases — Games from 2000 onward, current-gen ports, or live-service titles are outside our scope.
  • Technical repair — Cabinet restoration, PCB repair, CRT servicing, or emulation setup walkthroughs.
  • Buying & selling — Price estimates, authentication of rare boards, or marketplace disputes.
  • Publisher support — Account recovery, refunds, or licensing for commercial use of game assets.
  • ROMs & hacks — Distribution of unauthorised copies, fan patches, or cheat codes.
  • Legal disputes — Copyright claims must be directed through formal channels with documentation; we are not a law firm.
